hey so livejournal looks totes new and prettified, i kinda like it
so here i am at 356 in the morning after christmas and i am just worrying about all of the little things in my life.
normally i am pretty good about not worrying and just going with the flow but the stresses and unknowns in my life at the moment are pretty overwhelming to me so i thought o hey lj will save me by helping my organize my thoughts
I am or will be in a few weeks a 2nd semester senior in college
my grades are largely mediocre and not up to my capabilities
I havent taken the GRE or LSAT yet
(but my extracurriculars and research are awes, maybe thatll balance out?)
I need to fix my resumee
Im taking 7 classes next semester
(I took 6 this semester and did well in all but 1, maybe its a good thing?)
I am unsure of the status of my recommendations
I dont know if i really want to be an engineer or a lawyer
i miss my lady friend
i need to get back into shape
i need to fix my brothers computer
the thing with my room - more on this after i get back to cornell
I guess the list isnt so bad, but i kind of feel that i will fail on all counts and at the end of the semester not have a job or grad school waiting for me or anything that really matters to me
anyway i guess ill update anyone now who might read this about what has been happening in my life in the past 26 weeks (according to lj i havnt updated in 26 weeks)
so this semester was a 2 out of 3
At cornell my priorities are pretty much 1- lady friend 2-school work 3-frat
i did well in all 3 but i was a little pissed at a few kids in my house for quite a while, anyway thats not really important and that kind of got straightened out.
I took 6 classes and this was i would say it was one of the better senesters i have had
i think i am going to get rid of my facebook or at least make it more private
some of my friends are so retarded and i feel like facebook could become something of a liability
my old computer broke so now i have a tiny little thing called a EEE PC by the company ASUS you should look it up
they are super tiny
im tired
im going to visit my grandpa tomorrow/ 3 hours from now
i need sleep

I cant sleep
!
So after like 3 years of not wearing my retainer i decided that tonight was a good night to see if it would still fit
well! it didnt really so i jammed that bad boy in there
and the pain was like whoa
it was kind of like a head ache? idk, it was interesting
but now i cant sleep as the pain has taken over and weirdness is going on in my mouth
Also im thinking about all these things like my mind is racing about like everything
see im in an archery class so i was like YOOOO i need to buy a stringer cus damn, i hate restringing recurve bows with my legs. its super dangerous and its bad for the equipment- so i went on cabelas and they were like gimme $15 so i was like hmm, i think imma check out Dick's tomorrow
Also, in my research group i have a little meeting/presentation tomorrow so there that.
but i have new ideas so thats happy news i do suppose

"You guys think you have tough choices! Ha! Listen to this... I got into Harvard, UPenn, Yale, Brown, CalTech, Stanford, MIT, and Dartmouth. Unfortunately, I somehow got denied from Cornell, which I really liked, but I was in all likelihood overqualified. This was unfortunate."
I think its funny that people think that they are over/under-qualified to attend an institution of higher learning.
It is in my opinion indicative of the greatest ball droppery that the Ivy League and all other "top-tier" schools are guilty of. These institutions are all meant for higher learning and really getting an education. However a whole ass load of people just see these places as ways to further their own self interests while being allowed to be lazy.
While I have been in college I have encountered only a few types of people, most of them really shouldn't be here:
1- The kid who doesn't study/try because having a cornell degree will help write his own ticket. Studies have shown that GPA does not matter for non-technical fields (people who arent future lawers, doctors, engineers, scientists)
2- the kids who are all about pwn-ing the prelims (tests) and do not care about the actual material covered. Super uber common and really lame because these people go to great lengths to cheat or just cram for the test just to forget it later.
3- The kids who are all about partying- really? that didnt get old for you? I mean im all for drinking but doing it 2 or 3 times every weekend just gets boring. let me give you a basic run down of what happens:
first you get your hand marked at some lame frat, then you go inside and find that it is hot as balls in there because they have approx 300 people in there, get some shitty beer, get drunk, hookup, repeat - idk me personally, im all about drinking alone in my room, listening to some miley cyrus, jerking it and then crying to sleep- but thats just me.
4-the kids who are all about the political importance of the latest hip candidate and how he will change everything- i hate you
5-stoner kids, mostly fit into 1 and 3 but use pots and cracks to get high on life
Im really just saying i do not understand why people spend all this money to go to college if they dont even like learning things.
I suppose i didnt think out a valid argument, just pointed out some people who i dont like
but still... i dont like them

so we had an admissions rate of 20.4%
that sounds low as you would only have a 1 in 5 chance of getting in
That being said, there are some people on campus who get their panties all up in a bunch about how all the other Ivy league schoolages have way lower percentages

its been quite a while
so 2 days ago was zmas

i had a dream yesterday that i was sitting in some giant lecture hall, like it was redic huge
i think a good word would be ginormous
anyway i was sitting next to a girl and she all of a sudden got called up to the professors stage
so everyone else starts talking and i look down at my notes and i read a big chart
in case you dont know its pretty rare to read something in your dreams because your mind has to kind of make it up twice, so if you can try to remember those things because they might reveal something about how you work? idk
anyway
so i recall reading the number 1.700 k#/g (the # sign was actually a sigma but i dont know how to type that)
and i was thinking to myself, thats strange, this is a cooking class
so anyway the girl comes back to sit down and tells me that the professor had an extra assignment just for me. so she tells me i have to do a report relating muckrackers to something else that wasnt related to cooking, and even though this makes no sense i did not question her.
so then there is a jump in my dreaming and i am running down libe slope but it is full of trees, and i remember wait i dont live on west campus anymore so i decide to take the suspension bridge over to seal and serpent
but for some reason there is a castle in the way and there are all these signs saying that the bridge is closed for renovations
so im like, no no its cool ill just use it anyway
so as im about to cross over i get stopped by the janitor dude from the harry potter movies who is like "oooo youre in trouble"
i woke up, i guess he scared me
anyway, so now i want to take a cooking class
i wonder if there are different types? like is one cooking easier than another
idk, are there classes like cooking 242: sauces, or cook 532: cajun styles
so i have to figure this out along with my other classes
at the moment i am thinking
1- a math class
2- uncertainty analysis and engineering
3- fluid mechanics/dynamics
4- dynamics
5- some earth science

so i dont think i can fit in the cooking, but perhaps next semester

so i havnt really updated much recently so heres whats up!
here are my plans for this next semester
ill be living in Seal and Serpent, its my new frat which i was recently initiated into. Its a good place for me and i am very agreeable with at least 80% of the brothers (i dont know a few of them, they were away or are very to themselves-y)
I was elected the rush chair as well as the house manager, so thats pretty cool. I like it lots and i hope i do a good job for this semester.
Also I'll be one of the new Cornell Bears! this is super exciting for me and i can hardly believe it its so unbelievable!
Im not sure of the classes that i will be taking but at the moment its looking like a Fluid Mechanics/Dynamics class, some Math, Engineering Dynamics, and BioGeoChemisty
im kind of scared of the biogeochem as i dont have any backgroud in bio so idk if ill actually take it or drop it like 3 weeks into the semester
im thinking about taking bowling as well cus i really like bowling
when i was in china the hotel had a bowling alley in it and i totally dug it
i really want to learn how to play the guitar but father discourages my taking it at cornell as you can learn it anywheres and it costs mad doughs so i think ill wait or just try to teach it to myself
I used to take lessons in both piano and guitar but i have forgotten almost everthing (i can read music and play piano slowly, and i can play twinkle twinkle little star on guitar so thats not so good)
i think guitar hero is to blame on this one. i do enjoy that game ever so much!
me and sis went to the best buy just to play it, it was AWESOME- no one was there so we could play for like 30 minutes with no one coming about
im kind of obsessed with it, i need to get one!
i think this semester im going to go to office hours all the time this way everyone will love me and my being wack at tests and good at homework will be more ok
i dont really like the grading system at cornell, its kinda BS
for example, i was in this earth science class this semester and i was doing ok, not great but i was about half a standard deviation above the mean. So i took a look at the median grade report and it said A- so i was like OMG WTF thats sweet aceeee! so then i get my grades for this semester and i see i got a B, so im like OMG WTF this is BS and its because the new median grade was B- so thats like not cool
also i think that students should be allowed to schedule their own tests and finals, it would make it way more fair as the current system is lame as hell
for example, i took an engineering computation class that started at like 1010 in the morning but the final was scheduled for 9 in the morning (maybe it was 930, w/e the morning final is)
thats not really cool as it is possible that some kids wake up at this time normally
idk, maybe im just a little bitter as iv been screwed with my final schedule 3 semesters in a row now
i took a computer science class once and they gave you one test, homework, a final project, and an interview with the final project and interview being the most important. i thought that was a great way of grading people as there are lots of people who get freaked out during tests
im sure some would argue that some people get freaked out during interviews but i think that a professor would understand that.
some people also argue that it would be super difficult to allow people to schedule their own finals, but some schools do that already and the kids love it and only a few people cheat (they get caught and expelled according to one of my math TAs, he went to i think Connecticut College or something)
